Inter Faith Week 2010

An Inter Faith Week will take place across England and Wales from Sunday 21 to Saturday 27 November 2010.

The aims of the week are: to strengthen good inter faith relations at all levels; to increase awareness of the different and distinct faith communities in the UK, in particular celebrating and building on the contribution which their members make to their neighbourhoods and to wider society; and to increase understanding between people of religious and non-religious belief.

The Week is being led by the Inter Faith Network for the UK, working with its member bodies, in consultation with the Department for Communities and Local Government, the Department for Children, Schools and Families, the Local Government Association and the Equality and Human Rights Commission. Regional Faith Forums in England will again play a key role in supporting and making known the pattern of events in their regions.

If you are organising an event and would like it to be listed regionally, please contact us for an event listing form at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or alternatively, download one from our website

Tuesday 26 October - ‘Faith in the Big Society’? – Invitation to conference and AGM

10.30am – 3.30pm Albemarle Centre, Albemarle Road, Taunton TA1 1BA

Dear colleague

Faithnetsouthwest cordially invites you to attend our AGM and conference. We continually hear about the importance of the ‘Big Society’; the importance of empowering communities; giving an impetus to social action in local communities and more power  to local government. The conference will explore some of these major themes and the contribution that faith groups have always made to supporting their local community and their relevance to the ‘Big Society’ initiatives.

There will be plenty of opportunities for discussion and presentations from a variety of different perspectives. These will include, Margaret Firth from the Government Office for the South West, John Skrine from the Empowering Communities Partnership and Simon Bale – Social Responsibility Officer for Greater Bristol and Chair of the Bristol Multi-faith Forum. There will also be an outline of the work Faithnetsouthwest is doing to help faith groups get more involved in their local community and the lessons for all from the good practice that already exists.

The AGM agenda will be sent out separately. Full members of Faithnetsouthwest are entitled to vote at the AGM. If you wish to apply for full or associate membership, please complete the form, which will be sent out with the agenda. We look forward to welcoming you to the AGM/Conference.

Best wishes
Alistair Beattie, Chief Executive
